 LAY  SERVANT  MINISTRIES  FALL  TRAINING

  1.  BASIC Course

This course prepares the person to serve the church, through ministries of leading, caring, communicating &/or speaking.

Book: Lay Servant Ministries, by Sandy Zeigler Jackson and Brian Jackson

Teacher:  Emily Harding, Certified Lay Minister & Director of Lay Servant Ministries

This course is REQUIRED for Certified Lay Servants, Certified Lay Speakers, and Certified Lay Ministers before proceeding to advanced certified courses.

 

  1. LEADING WORSHIP

This course focuses on the ministry of the Lay Servant who either regularly or occasionally leads a group or congregation

in worship.

Book: Worshiping with United Methodists (Revised) by Hoyt Hickman

Teacher:  Rev. Randall Wright, Pastor at Elm Tree Parish

This course can be used for advance course credit for all Certified Lay Servant and Certified Lay Ministers. This is a REQUIRED course needed for certification for all Certified Lay Speakers.

 

  1. AGING AND  MINISTRY  IN  THE  21ST  CENTURY

This is a practical guide for building ministry for older adults.

Book:  Aging and ministry in the 21st Century by Richard H. Gentzler, Jr.

Teacher:  Rev. Richie Hayes, Pastor at Glen Alpine UMC

This course can be used for advance course credit for all Certified Lay Servant and Certified Lay Ministers.

  1. TEACH ADULTS

This course is designed to help provide a basic understanding of the way in which adults learn and grow.

Book: Start Here by Barbara Bruce

Teacher: Rev. Susan Arnold, Pastor at Blountville UMC

This course can be used for advance course credit for all Certified Lay Servants and Certified Lay Ministers.
